When the weather heats up it's time to hit the beach! There are plenty of beaches in and around Marin and while many beaches along the Pacific Ocean are not safe for swimming there are also many beaches along the Bay that are ideal for swimming, wading, and splashing. Here are some of our members favorites!


China Camp State Park

  • Sandy strip of coastline where Redwood Creek reaches the ocean
  • High bluffs border beaches at north and south, with preserved wetlands and lagoon found behind beach

  • Closer to Muir Woods and Pelican Inn

  • Multicolored pebbles at the north end for beach-combing
  • Surfing and Swimming allowed; no lifeguard on duty

  • Small and sheltered strip of sand used for launching kayaks, aka "Kayak Beach"

  • Three and a half miles of sand and 51 acres of park
  • More than 100 picnic tables (some with grills) available on first-come basis

  • Dogs are allowed on north end of beach
  • Restrooms with showers available
