ABOUT PHILANTHROPY

SMMC is dedicated to supporting families in Marin and actively incorporates opportunities for members to give back to the broader community. SMMC maintains relationships with local nonprofit organizations that serve families and children in Marin County, and responds to needs identified by those organizations. Philanthropic activities include holding donation drives, organizing volunteer opportunities for adults and children, and coordinating fundraising events. SMMC is also proud to support the work of our nonprofit partners through an annual grant making process.

2023/24 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Thanksgiving care packages for 75 families at Homeward Bound of Marin: 750 homemade cookies, 75 handmade cards, and 75 $100 food gift certificates
  • Holiday wish list and stocking stuffer shopping for 175 children through Marin Foster Care Association
  • Holiday gifts for 6 families served by the Marin County Cooperation Team
  • Parents’ Night Out raffle benefiting Marin Foster Care Association therapy program
  • Volunteering at Postpartum Support Center: donation sorting and supply distribution to families in need
  • Secured replacement refrigerator for Gilead House
  • Provided scholarships for two youth to attend a college tour trip with Marin County Cooperation Team

SMMC, registered as Southern Marin Mothers’ Organization, is a non-profit, volunteer run club that strives to provide supportive, nurturing community for families to share meaningful experiences, fun, and fellowship that strengthens family bonds. POSTPARTUM SUPPORT CENTER


 The Postpartum Support Center aims to help expectant and new parents navigate the perinatal period, reduce parental stress, and build effective support systems, particularly when confronted with considerable barriers to mental health treatment including long wait times and high costs. They provide direct peer and social support, prevention program, practical help, information, and resources.

 Marin Foster Care Association provides comprehensive resources that inspire and empower the Foster Care Community.

Homeward Bound of Marin



Homeward Bound of Marin is the county’s main provider of resources for homeless adults, families and veterans, they welcome approximately 1,000 people per year through their 18 programs. They provide safe accommodation, compassionate support and job training for people who are experiencing chronic homelessness.

Gilead House



Gilead House is a place of hope to inspire and empower homeless single moms and their children toward financial stability and independence as they navigate the journey to self-reliance.

MATRIX PARENT NETWORK/MARIN CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING


Matrix Parent Network and Resource Center is a parent-founded, parent-operated nonprofit organization founded in 1983.  All of their services are free, supported through grants, contracts, donations, and fundraising activities. Matrix provides both direct services to families and technical support services to other federally-funded parent centers.
