MOTHER’S DAY FOR GILEAD HOUSE
By: Sarah Smith   |   May 4, 2023

Mother’s Day is a special time to reflect on the sacrifice and love that mothers bring to a family. Many members of SMMC are finding themselves at the dawn of their motherhood journey. At this time your child’s needs and love for you is ever-present. Due to the newness of motherhood, you will likely receive attention all around from friends, family, and strangers regarding this beautiful season of life. You may spend the day with family who celebrate you with a bouquet, card, or a gift. Soak up these moments!

While you are celebrating Mother’s Day, it is important to acknowledge the adversity and uncertainty some mothers in our community face. SMMC has continued to be a strong supporter of Gilead House. Gilead House provides a stable home environment for low-income, vulnerable, and often homeless single mothers and their children. The women who live at Gilead House are working hard to better their circumstances and the lives of their children. SMMC members would like to celebrate and acknowledge the work they are doing for their families.

On Saturday, May 13, SMMC Philanthropy will be hosting a Mother’s Day brunch and floral arranging workshop at Paseo in Mill Valley. SMMC will donate the floral arrangements  to the mothers of Gilead House and to select residents of local care facilities. If you’d like to join, please register HERE >>.

For future events and volunteer opportunities please check the SMMC calendar or email philanthropy@smmc.com.

Sarah Smith moved to San Francisco from her tiny Northern California town in 2011. Her plan was to attend college before she ventured out and conquered the world. Life, however, had different plans for her. She met the love of her life junior year and now lives in quiet Mill Valley with her husband Andy, daughter Lucy and Kitty, their cat.

Prior to motherhood Sarah spent 8 years in the dental field in both chairside care and office management. Although she still dabbles in the field, she has plunged into motherhood full time. Sarah plans to take full advantage of her time away from work by giving back and fostering relationships among members. In the relatively short time that Sarah has been a member of SMMC she has found peace of mind, fellowship, and confidence as a new mother. It’s her hope that she can meaningfully contribute to the community while creating opportunities for others to do so as well.
