KEEP COOL
By: SMMC Community | July 6, 2022
Everyone loves good advice. Beat the heat this summer with one of these Mom Hacks!
Splash Pad
By Pamela Parker
For approximately $25 from Walmart or Amazon, you can connect a garden hose to an inflatable splash pad that turns your backyard into a water play wonderland. This has been a ton of fun for toddlers on hot Marin days. You can easily get one that is free of BPA and phthalates.
Cold Tub
By Celeste Ezell
We turned the heat off the hot tub and voila it became a pool! The 104 degree setting often climbs a couple more degrees, and our little one won’t even think about getting in. Drop the temperature to 90 degrees and the whole family relaxes at the end of a hot day. Add a few bath toys for double the fun.
Backyard Camping
By Zoha Barkeshli
We tested out this “Mom Hack” to keep cool on the evening of Friday, June 10th, one of the hottest days we’ve experienced so far this year. We set up our camping tent in the backyard, got the kids into their jammies and camped at home. Needless to say, it was a huge success. Both of the boys, age four and a half and almost three, were super excited and slept through the entire night. We had snacks outside before brushing our teeth and camping. One important tip is to make sure you add an extra layer under their jammies in case the night gets chilly.
We want to feature your family in The Crier next month!
Here are three ways you can contribute. The best submission will get a 15 minute family portrait with Amelia Plumb Photography. Email submissions to Celeste Ezell by Friday, July 14! Watch for more opportunities each month!
